    Albert Komlos
I am Albert Komlos from Hungary and I have participated at Ivan Villax Traineeship program at Hovione in Portugal. As a chemical engineer student it was a great opportunity for me to apply for such a scholarship and it was even a bigger honour to be selected. I spent 5 months at Hovione R&D department, working with the local engineers, scientists and PhD students. During the semester that I spent as an intern, I made lots of work and experiments, that I used for my MSc diploma work. After the internship I successfully graduated back at home.
After some smaller initial troubles I joined a very interesting and unique project, gained lots of experience and learnt a lot. Besides developing my preparational chemical skills, I got familiar with several analytical methods and I got involved in research works at a GMP pharmaceutical laboratory.
Sometimes things work very slow in the country, but if you accept the mediterranean mentality you can meet heaps of friendly people and discover an amazing country. The Ivan Villax Traineeship Program offered a very generous scholarship which covered more then my expenses. The canteen and the cafe at Hovione is adorable, and the Hovione bus is very handy if you dont have a car. All together I can say doing my diploma work as an intern at Hovione was a great decision and the Ivan Villax Scholarship gave me all the academical, industrial and financial help!

In 2009 a scholarship program for MSc students of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics was founded by Hovione. The Ivan Villax Traineeship program offers a great opportunity for students to work in an industrial research and development environment at a dynamically developing company, in Portugal.
I was very excited when I applied for this trainee position, and it was a great honour to be selected. The company were determined to take into account my knowledge and preferences when they were setting up the project for me. Since I am specialized in analytical chemistry I had the opportunity to be integrated in the Drug Product Development Discipline (DPD), where I performed thermoanalytical analysis of solid samples. I was also involved in the design of a new computational screening methodology for the development of amorphous solid dispersions. During this project I learned how to overcome difficulties, while combining innovative attitude and academic knowledge.
Besides the great professional experience, this was a very nice personal experince as well. People from the Human Resources were very supportive. They gave me all the help I needed. The colleagues from DPD were very helpful and handled me as the member of the team from the very first time. I am very greatful for their great hospitality.
The company offers a free daily lunch at the canteen, and a bus transfer for workers, which is a great help for the trainees.
Because of the generous scholarship I was able to afford my daily expenses and to make a few trips in this really amaizing and beautiful country.
All in all, this was a very valuable professional and an unforgettable personal experience.
I am very grateful that I was given the chance to participate in the Ivan Villax Traineership program.

Since I came with my wife I had special requirements, that I thought I would had to solve on my own, but HR helped a lot to solve these problems, not just before we arrived, but when I had to pay the bills and other stuff. (…) The first what I could feel, was the “Hovione Honor” (…) everybody is proud of working here, that makes the atmosphere friendly. The integration went well, everybody helped a lot from the beginning. The colleagues working here are all well qualified and make world-class work, as I can judge. The laboratories are well-equipped, and modern, it was a pleasure to work in. (…) The allowance you offered was enough for two of us, we could even afford to travel some and discover this beautiful country.

I participated in Ivan Villax Traineeship in 2012. I took it as a big adventure in my life, not only because of my working skills but also personally. I could encourage anybody to apply, because the atmosphere at work is unique. Colleagues help as if they were your friends in whatever you need, and the HR Department also solves any of your problems. The circumstances for work are very good; I did mostly preparative work for which I had high quality equipments. For work I got freedom to improve my Research and Development skills but also support when I needed. I learned a lot from my supervisor and became more independent and creative. I am grateful for the responsibility they gave me. The scholarship is more than enough for the living costs, so I had opportunity to travel around during the weekends, and see the most beautiful places in Portugal, which were amazing. It was a great experience; I would go back any time.

The Ivan Villax Traineeship is a great opportunity for students to work in R&D at a dynamically developing company, in Portugal. It was a great honor to be selected. I took it as a big adventure in my life, not only regarding to my professional but also to my personal life. I could encourage anybody to apply, because the atmosphere at work is unique. I had a special situation as an Ivan Villax trainee. Opposite the routine of the previous scholarships, in which students were working in the laboratory environment, I have got a new topic called DynoChem. DynoChem is simulation software for the different chemical processes for instance distillation, solubility or heat transfer. This topic included a teamwork with around 40 people from different areas of the company and regularly meetings also. At the end of my traineeship I had to give a session about how can we use this software to more than 30 people. During this project I learned how to overcome difficulties, solve problems and I could improve those very important skills, which are not being promoted in our student life, but they will be essential, when we start our professional life.

People from the HR were very supportive and my colleagues handled me as the member of the team from the very first time. We are still keep contact with some of them. I am very glad for their great hospitality. Because of the generous scholarship I was able to travel in this amazing country and learn the Portugal mentality.

All in all, this was a very valuable professional and an unforgettable personal experience. I am very grateful that I was given the chance to participate in the Ivan Villax Traineership program. I could and will encourage anybody to apply, I would go back any time.
